"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams." Ode by Arthur O'Shaughnessy
Introduction
A student at the Royal Northern College of Music, Adam started playing the Trombone aged 7 when he wanted to play 'the funny looking one' under the guidance of Lee Rigg at his local Primary School. Aged 9, he was invited into the Wardle Academy Youth Brass Band, where Lee was the conductor. In the Youth Band, Adam learned a great deal from both Lee, and the players around him. It was around this time Adam also began to take lessons with Dr. Brett Baker.
During Adam's time playing with Wardle Youth Band, he travelled across Europe playing in concerts and competitions, winning the European Youth Brass Band Championships on 4 occasions. In both 2019 and 2022, Adam performed as the Band's soloist, and on both occasions won the 'Best Soloist' prize.
In 2018, Adam successfully auditioned for the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain (NYBBGB), where he remained a member for 6 years. In the Summer of 2019, Adam was made the Principal Trombone of the Band, a position he held for the remainder of his time in the band. Through the NYBBGB, Adam was conducted and tutored by many of the worlds finest instrumentalists, and also met like-minded lifelong friends.
In summer 2022, Adam became Solo Trombone of the Hammonds Band, a position he held for 18 months. During this time, he made his first appearances at both the British Open Brass Band Championships at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, and the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
In early 2024, Adam accepted the position of Principal Trombone with the world-famous Black Dyke Band, succeeding his former teacher Brett Baker, after serving as Co-Principal Trombone since June 2022. In 2024 Adam enjoyed the band's visits to Switzerland and a tour of Japan and looks forward to returning in the near future
Adam also performs regularly in professional theatre productions across Greater Manchester and has recently enjoyed developing his orchestral playing experience.
He is proud to be a Performing Artist for both Michael Rath Trombones and Denis Wick Products, playing a Custom Rath R6 Hagmann Trombone with a Denis Wick 5ABL Mouthpiece.
